Issues in Broadband Networking Architecture

We see a new services lining up to be deployed on the Internet, however apart from some controlled tests we see very little actual deployment. The sparse deployment we see is on dedicated networks, rather than "across Internet". We see e.g. any number of IP-TV field trials, but no actual deployment of the Internet, Service Providers run rather large scale VoIP tests, but interworking between different Service Providers is done through the PSTN network.
The presentation will also discuss some of the expectations on (G)MPLS that service providers have and some of the opportunities they are counting on.
There are reasons for this, some of these reasons are outside the scope of this presentation, e.g. business models, other will be addressed, e.g. the impact of the amount of information a routing system has to handle when advanced traffic engineering is deployed. The presentation will address some of the issues, but also look into how (G)MPLS could be used or extended to address those issues.
