MPLS Network Management: Enterprise Deployment Management

Many enterprises are moving towards deploying MPLS in their internal networks. In particular, some larger enterprises are actually turning into miniature service providers that deploy MPLS application services to different organizations within their enterprise. This presentation discusses the implications are such a strategy on an existing enterprise OSS/management strategies. We will also investigate how this management strategy differs from deployments in service provider networks.


Speaker Biography:

Thomas D. Nadeau is the technical leader of MPLS network management development at Cisco Systems, where he leads a team that designs and develops MIBs and other management tools for Cisco’s routing and switching platforms. He also works on other network management-related and MPLS-related activities at Cisco, such as the common optical control plane, COPS, Diff-Serv, VPN, Traffic Engineering, and Pseudo-wire Emulation. As one of a small group of engineers at Cisco designated as the “MIB Police,” he shares responsibility for overseeing and assisting in the design and approval of all internal Cisco MIBs. Nadeau has been an adjunct professor of computer science at the University of Massachusetts at Lowell since 2000.
