MPLS Traffic Engineering and its applications in a single IGP area are quite prevalent today. This presentation discusses MPLS Traffic Engineering solutions across different regions, where regions could be IGP Areas/Levels or Autonomous Systems (ASes). While the requirements for an inter-AS MPLS TE solution may be somewhat different from that for an inter-area MPLS TE solution, the goal is to leverage existing routing and signaling tools to offer a generic mechanism to enable MPLS Traffic Engineering and its applications across regions, while preserving the basic goals of a hierarchical routing model which include scalability, restricted information sharing and routing protection.
