The greatest challenge in the deployment of provider-provisioned Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) is the effort required for Configuration and Management. This presentation will describe practical approaches for management of VPNs, including fault isolation, configuration, accounting, performance monitoring, and configuration of security features. Both Layer 2 and Layer 3 VPNs will be considered. We will focus on difficult management problems, such as the scaling of network management systems and processes.
