Abstract:

This presentation will provide an overview of the introduction of MPLS Traffic Engineering within Equant's network. It will explain how this function allows to achieve significant cost savings and provide key advantages compared to other technologies. Some of the MPLS TE design considerations will be addressed, particularly the computation of FRR backup paths while accounting for various administrative and resource constraints. The presentation will describe the requirements for MPLS TE management tools and also list the potential future applications of MPLS TE in Equant's network.

Zubair Ahmad represents Equant's Strategic Technology Planning department. Mr. Ahmad has been with the company (i.e. Equant/ Global One initially) since April 1996. During this period Zubair held various positions in Network Operations and Engineering. Prior to joining Global One, Zubair worked for Bell Atlantic from Jan '95 through Mar '96. Mr. Ahmad holds a Masters degree in Electrical Engineering and graduated from University of Florida, Gainesville in December 1994.
